Using a combination of en plein air and photographs, journal writings and sense memories, I strove to capture my deep connection and love for the North Shore of Massachusetts, where I was born and raised. In this piece, I incorporated the vibrant richness of the land and light that is unique to New England. After many sketches, using several layers of oil paint, I endeavored to express the color and soul of New England, and evoke that comforting feeling that only home can bring. I allowed the painting to guide me and created tension through the interplay of hues, values, chroma and textures.
